Project 1

At our school we are doing a school-wide following of the Vancouver Olympics. Each class room has picked a country and an American athlete to follow during the competitions. We are to keep track of how many medals our assigned country wins, as well as how well our American athletes perform.
Goal: Use RSS to follow our assigned country and athlete’s progress during the 2010 Olympics. Students will summarize the country and athlete progress using photostory, pictures only, no words.

Materials: Website:
http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympic-schedule-results/
Photostory, pictures from the internet, pictures of our charts
Procedure: Set up an RSS from the above website to my Google account. Daily check with the students the RSS and update our medal charts. At the end of the Olympics, we will summarize the results for both the country we were following as well as the American athlete we were following. Students will be divided into groups of 4-5 to create a movie of still photos, and/or movie clips, of either the country’s results or the athlete’s results. They are to decide on one word that summarizes the result and tell a story using pictures and movie clips to explain that word. All pictures and movie clips must be related to the sport, athlete, or country. The only words that can be used are the students’ names and the one word summary.
